1. Product Description
RPMI-1640 was developed by Moore et al. in 1967 at the Roswell Park Memorial Institute (Roswell Park Memorial Institute, RPMI) in Faro, New York, USA. RPMI is a type of cell culture medium developed by the institute, and 1640 is the culture medium code. RPMI-1640 is a modified version of McCoy's5A medium, using a bicarbonate buffer system, which differs from most mammalian cell culture media in its typical pH 8 formulation. RPMI-1640 medium was originally specially designed for lymphocyte culture, and now it has been widely used in the culture of various normal cells and cancer cells, especially in the culture of suspension cells, and is one of the most widely used media.
HEPES is an excellent biological buffer, which has no toxic effect on cells. The medium added with HEPES can maintain a constant pH range for a long time, which can effectively prevent the adverse effects of large fluctuations in the pH of the culture medium on cell growth.
